Kaduna Governor pushes for State Police

 The governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani, underlined the need for state police to be established immediately, citing the growing sophistication of bandits in the area. Sani voiced his worry that the local security personnel would not be able to stop these outlaws with their sophisticated weapons.

Kaduna, a state well-known for its high rate of banditry and kidnapping, is still dealing with the kidnapping of multiple schoolchildren.

In a recent event, the Kaduna State Police Command acknowledged the kidnapping of citizens from the Dogon-Noma community in the Kajuru Local Government Area. The spokesperson for the command, Mansir Hassan, is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

The Kajuru State Constituency representative in the House of Assembly, Usman Danlami Stingo, asserted that 86 villagers had been kidnapped; however, this number could not be independently confirmed.

The situation is still very concerning even though the state government set up local security units to combat the widespread insecurity in Kaduna and other affected areas. Governor Sani blamed the growing insecurity on the inadequate equipment these local security units were using. In a televised interview, the governor emphasized the need for state police, claiming that it would enable communities to protect themselves against armed threats.

He emphasized the current legal limitations that local vigilance services must contend with, which limit their capacity to carry weapons like AK-47s. Sani emphasized how crucial it is to give state police the constitutional right to carry weapons so they can work more efficiently with other security agencies and safeguard their people.
